Best costumes-Ice dance edition

And we're back with some more fun silliness! Let's peep the fits:

Weaver and Poje skating to a Paso Doble rhythm dance in these FIRE outfits. It really says Paso and they both look great, kudos.

Davis and White here in their Indian "Bollywood" original dance. Honestly big ups to them for doing this program, they got authentic Indian clothes and altered them to work for this program-they also consulted with dancers who knew Indian styles of dance. It was all very well done. Also this COLOR on her? Perfection.

Shib sibs doing their Michael Jackson free dance in these outfits. One thing that I find not many teams do well, is to make the outfits gel together without making them either the exact same, or putting the man in just like a plain shirt. This is a great example of costumes that compliment each other without being carbon copies.

Davis and White again in their Scheherazade Free dance. She also wore the same dress in a lavender color for most of the competitive season, but if you ask me, she looks best in jewel tones (as do I darling). You can also kind of see the detail on his tunic thing-it was super well done.

I'm actually going to write about the next 2 together so you can see contrasting styles for essentially the same routine. Above are Chock/Bates doing their "Too Darn Hot" rhythm dance. Below are Pechalat/Bourzat doing their Roxie/Big Spender/Mein Herr short dance. I like Chock/Bates' more modern interpretation of the 20's era. This picture of them is SO good. And I like that they jazzed up his plain shirt with that untied bow tie look.

Nathalie and Fabian on the other hand went full-tilt 20's, but an updated, elevated 20's. He's wearing a zoot suit-but it's a good looking one. Real zoot suits are a lot sillier looking but the pin stripes really help sell the era. And all she needs is one of those cigarette holders and she could time travel. The more I look at these, the more I'm impressed at how they took 2014 and blended it so perfectly with 1920. The base outfits are so great-they could go out in these today! But they have enough of the 20's about them to still give you the sense of what this program is.

Papadakis and Cizeron wore these to win their second world title in the free dance to "Rain in Your Black Eyes" (I'm still sad I had to miss it, I'll never get over it). These actually look quite similar in style to the costumes they are wearing this year for their Rhythm dance-lots of illusion fabric. I like how in this program it's very reminiscent of abstract art-which to me really feels fitting with their choreography and performance for that skate. It's hard to explain why-it just makes sense! It's one of the reasons they're so good.

They used these outfits for their 2017 short dance, and honestly its an unusual style for them. They usually go very low key, very flowy and understated, so this is a slight deviation for them. He looks great honestly-structured blazers suit him really well and the style on her is great. And again, kudos to any team that doesn't go cringe with their Midnight Blues "Street dance" pattern.

Gilles and Poirier doing their James Bond free skate. I love that they went chartreuse for her dress-it really evokes a 60s/70s era of Bond and it's so unexpected (not to mention Peggy Fleming's chartreuse skating costume from the late 60's)! I don't really have any reason for including the below picture, I just really liked this part of their choreography-it's a car chase scene in an ice dance routine!

Listen. This dress is the best thing ever ok? The detail around the neck and the bodice are exquisite. And despite what I said about Meryl looking best in jewel tones she looks FANTASTICO in this color.

Cappellini and Lannotte used these outfits for their "Life is Beautiful" free dance during their final season together. First of all, how dare you, that movie is the saddest thing ever. But also, you can see for his costume, they kind of pulled right from the main character of the movie. The female lead on the other hand didn't have really any iconic looks, so instead they chose to pull from that era and then top it off with a great color (I'm telling you, brunettes just look good in jewel tones ok?).

Hurtado and Khalliavin used this in their free dance to a Don Quixote flamenco. Yeah, its great-they look great. Look at the skirt movement!

A controversial take? Don't mind if I do! This is Virtue/Moir in their Pink Floyd free dance. They only used these costumes twice before switching to all black ones for the world championships and honestly I STILL think about what a terrible decision that was. Look at her! She's like a flower! A watercolor, brushstroke flower! His costume was a little underwhelming by comparison-but like I said, sometimes that's how it goes in pairs skating/ice dance. The thing that was great about these costumes (compared to when they both wore all-black) was that every movement, lift, twisting motion, made her look more like a brush stroke. It really helped you appreciate their positions in lifts too.

Hubbell and Donohue used this for their "Caught out in the Rain" free dance and it's amazing. A++. Along with the music it makes you think of a smokey jazz club (I've never been to one, I just see movies) and honestly it bums me out their current costumes don't stack up to these.

Ok that's all I got-which ones do you like best? Comment your faves!
